Canker sores are small ulcers that appear on your tongue or inside your lip or cheek. They can be extremely painful and irritating, and sometimes they make it difficult to talk and eat. Oftentimes, canker sores come in groups and they appear more frequently in the mouths of women, teens, and young adults.

What are the causes?
The causes of canker sores are unknown, but they do tend to form when you:

· Are stressed or tired
· Accidentally bite or damage your lip
· Have braces
· Eat foods you are allergic to
· Do not get enough vitamins or minerals in your diet
· Consume a product that has a lot of acid
· Have your menstrual cycle

What are the treatments?
The treatment for canker sores can be pretty simple. You can help the situation with antimicrobial mouth rinse, corticosteroid ointment, or over-the-counter gel or pain medication to dull the irritations. To help keep the pain away, please avoid consuming spicy foods, foods with sharp edges, or acidic foods and beverages.
