Dental implants are strong, successful, beautiful, and reliable dental restorations that replace your missing teeth and give you the stunning and functional smile you deserve.

If you are interested in improving your oral health and smile with a dental implant in Pikesville, Maryland, then our Wellwood Family Dentistry team would like to tell you a little more about the restoration by informing you on the process involved in placing the implant.

The treatment involves the following steps:

Step 1: In order to place a dental implant, you will need a strong and healthy jawbone. So, to make sure your jawbone is up to par, your dentist will thoroughly examine your oral cavity by taking a series of X-rays.

Step 2: To begin treatment, you will be sent to an oral surgeon. The surgeon will place a small titanium post in the bone socket of your missing tooth. The bone will then need to heal around the post to secure it in place. This could take six to twelve weeks.

Step 3: When the bone has healed, your dentist will attach an abutment to the post. Then, he will create a dental crown that is perfect for your smile. When the crown is ready, he will place it over the abutment.
